6 Health Benefits of Bone Broth & How to Make Your Own

Bone broths are incredibly healthy, they also taste delicious and serve as the most versatile ingredient in your cooking arsenal. Bone broth is rich in protein and minerals that support immunity and also the adrenal glands. It contains glucosamine, which may provide joint support, and provides collagen, which supports connective tissue – so hair, skin and nails, bones and teeth.

6 Health Benefits of Bone Broth

Heal your gut
The gelatin in the bone broth (found in the knuckles, feet, and other joints) helps seal up holes in intestines. This helps cure chronic diarrhea, constipation, and even some food intolerances.

More energy
I’m not sure what the mechanism is for this, but if you read accounts of bone broth, you’ll notice everyone swears by the energy boost. I’d prefer to see science backing this up, but the research on bone broth is still emerging.

Fight Inflammation
Studies show that many of the amino acids in bone broth (such as cystine, histidine, and glycine) reduce inflammation, and L-glutamine specifically reduces gut inflammation.

Infection fighting & recuperation from illness
Homemade bone broth is excellent for speeding healing and recuperation from illness. You’ve undoubtedly heard the old adage that chicken soup will help cure a cold, and there’s scientific support for such a statement.

Strengthen Bones And Teeth
A study on the necessary nutrients for bone health found that the process of bone-formation requires “an adequate and constant supply of nutrients” as follows: calcium, protein, magnesium, phosphorus, vitamin D, potassium, zinc, manganese, copper, boron, iron, vitamin A, vitamin K, vitamin C, and the B vitamins.

Fights infections such as colds and flu
A study published in the journal Chest shows eating chicken soup during a respiratory infection reduces the number of white blood cells, which are the cells that cause flu and cold symptoms.

How to Make Bone Broth

4 -6 stalks of celery, finely chopped
½ white or yellow onion, finely chopped
3 cloves garlic, finely chopped
1 Tablespoon chopped fresh parsley
1 inch ginger root, finely chopped
½ teaspoon sea salt
½ teaspoon of apple cider vinegar

Directions:

-Place all of the above ingredients in a crockpot and cook on low heat for 8 -10 hours.
-I like to cook mine until the meat is falling away from the bones.
-I make this just before bed and it’s ready and hot for breakfast.
-You can store any excess broth in the freezer and defrost for a later time.
